Jambrina
Village
Jambrina is a village of 149 inhabitants, known as jabrinero, located in the centre of the Zamora comarca of Tierra del Vino, 18 kilometres from the provincial capital and at an altitude of 713 metres, beside the Jambrina stream. It preserves cellars from its old winemaking tradition, now being revived, and stone manor houses. Its church of la Concepción holds a 17th-century altarpiece with six reliefs of the life of the Virgin, and has a fountain, El Lavadero, presumed to be of Roman origin. Prehistoric Chalcolithic remains and a fossilised freshwater turtle some 42 million years old have been found within its municipal area, where the site of La Negrillera also lies, within the Llanuras del Guareña Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA).
