What to see and do in Casaseca de Campeán

Casaseca de Campeán
Village
Casaseca de Campeán is a hamlet of 88 inhabitants in the province of Zamora, whose name comes from the Latin casa and siccus, alluding to the lack of water of some nearby spring or stream, and from campus, flat field. Resettled by the monarchs of León in the Middle Ages, it was part in the early modern period of the Partido del Vino, and since 1834 it has belonged to the judicial district of Zamora. Its main monument is the parish church of San Isidoro de Sevilla, from the 18th century over an earlier structure, with a single nave of five bays and a small transept, and a slender 17th-century bell-gable; the baroque main altarpiece holds the images of San Ildefonso, San Atilano and San Isidoro himself, and on the sides those of Santa Águeda and Santa Lucía. Its periquillos, homemade doughnut rings, are typical.
