Cazurra
Village
Cazurra is a hamlet of 72 inhabitants located 14 kilometres from Zamora, whose origins, judging by its etymology, could go back to pre-Roman times; resettled in the Middle Ages within the Kingdom of León, and in the 18th and 19th centuries it was home to the counts of Casa Trejo, known in the village as the counts of Cazurra. Its Renaissance church of San Martín de Tours holds a 13th- or 14th-century Christ brought from the vanished hermitage of El Sardonal, together with 16th-century images of the Virgin and San Antonio Abad. The 1902 stone pelota court, today replaced by a new one, produced hand-pelota players who went on to become champions of Spain.
