What to see and do in Moralina

Moralina
Village
Moralina is a municipality in the province of Zamora (Castile and León), in the comarca of Sayago, situated within the Arribes del Duero natural park, whose biodiversity is also protected as the Meseta Ibérica transboundary biosphere reserve and as a Natura 2000 site, with species such as the griffon vulture, black stork and golden eagle. Its name, like that of other Sayago villages, alludes to a tree, in this case the black mulberry, of old concejo tradition and often planted in front of the comarca's rural churches. With 211 inhabitants, this village lies next to the crossing of the Roman calzadas from Pino del Oro to Ledesma and from Zamora to Miranda; its ermita of the Cristo de la Veiga is built of sober masonry, with a bell-gable with a monolithic arch.
The recumbent Redeemer of San Miguel
Monument
The church of San Miguel, with Romanesque arches and a choir enlarged in the eighteenth century, holds a Baroque main altarpiece and a rough Romanesque image of the recumbent Redeemer, the oldest piece in the municipality.
The crossroads of the Roman roads of Moralina
Historical milestone
The village was born beside the crossing of the Roman roads from Pino del Oro to Ledesma and from Zamora to Miranda do Douro; its first documentary mention is from 1275, among the possessions of the bishopric of Zamora.
