What to see and do in Argañín

Argañín
Village
Argañín is a hamlet in the comarca of Sayago, in Zamora province, at 800 metres of altitude within the Arribes del Duero natural park, whose biodiversity is further protected by the Meseta Ibérica biosphere reserve; its fauna includes the griffon vulture, the black stork and the golden eagle. It has 79 inhabitants. At the site of La Represa lies the prehistoric site of Peña del Gato, a granite outcrop with carved steps and around forty cup marks arranged in rows, considered a rock-cut sanctuary shaped more than 17,000 years ago for a lunar calendar. In the Middle Ages it was incorporated into the Kingdom of León as part of the resettlement of Sayago. It preserves a tall granite wayside cross, with no ornament other than a cornice, standing amid walled fields and holm oaks.
