What to see and do in Carbellino

Carbellino
Village
Carbellino, also called Carbellino de Sayago, is a village in the province of Zamora, in the comarca of Sayago, whose municipal boundary borders the province of Salamanca along the río Tormes, widened at this stretch by the reservoir of the Almendra dam, the largest of its kind in Spain, and proposed, owing to its proximity to the Arribes del Duero natural park, as a special protection area for birds. Its name, of uncertain origin, may go back to the twelfth-century repopulations and has been linked to the Galician-Leonese carbayo or carballo, "oak". Set on granite outcrops, its quarries supplied the stones for the paving of the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca and the bridge of Ledesma, cut by stonemasons from the village itself. It has 174 inhabitants.
