What to see and do in Almeida de Sayago

Almeida de Sayago
Village
Almeida de Sayago is a town in the Zamora comarca of Sayago, amid centuries-old holm oaks and near the Almendra reservoir and the Arribes del Duero natural park, with 411 inhabitants, plus the hamlet of Escuadro. Its town centre, built in granite following Sayago's rural architecture, holds a notable heritage: the Casal del Gato dolmen, the thermal spring of the Hervideros de San Vicente, origin of its spa, and bridges and fountains of Roman origin. Its Baroque church of San Juan Bautista holds a 1631 altarpiece with a carving from the school of Gregorio Fernández. Among its traditions stand out the running of the vaca bayona cattle on San Roque's day, the dance of the Flag, and the pilgrimage (romería) to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Gracia, patroness of the comarca of Sayago.

The sulphurous spring of San Vicente
Nature
A spring of sulphurous waters known as the Hervidero de San Vicente rises in the municipal district, a landscape of granite boulder fields and dehesa of centuries-old holm oaks two kilometres from the Almendra reservoir.
