What to see and do in Sardón de los Frailes

Sardón de los Frailes
Village
Sardón de los Frailes is a municipality in the province of Salamanca with 98 inhabitants, comprising the main settlement and that of Villarejo, in the Tierra de Ledesma district. It was founded as part of the repopulation carried out by the Leonese kings between the 10th and 12th centuries, when it was included in the alfoz of Ledesma; the doorway of its San Pedro church dates from that period. In the 14th century it came under the Dominicans of the San Esteban convent in Salamanca, under whose ecclesiastical lordship it remained until the 19th century, a circumstance that gave the village its surname “de los Frailes” (of the Friars). In the mid-19th century it had 129 inhabitants, according to the Diccionario de Madoz.
