What to see and do in El Manzano

El Manzano
Village
El Manzano is a hamlet of about 54 inhabitants in La Ramajería, Vitigudino district, Salamanca; its founding goes back to the repopulation by the León kings between the 10th and 12th centuries, when it was placed within the Alfoz de Ledesma. It has steadily lost population: it had 96 inhabitants in 2000 and 65 in 2021. Every first Saturday of October it celebrates its main feast in honour of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, which begins with the villagers' wake-up call to the sound of the gaita charra and the tambourine; in the afternoon, the madrinas dressed in charra costume parade the image in procession, and beside the church the auction of the bollos maimones is held, which the madrinas donate and which the young men compete for. The jotas charras round off one of the liveliest feasts in the district.
