Villaveza de Valverde
Village
Villaveza de Valverde is a hamlet in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, in the province of Zamora, with 72 inhabitants and 12.46 km² of municipal area. Its name comes from the Mozarabic personal name Abeza; founded in the Middle Ages within the Kingdom of León, in the early modern period it belonged to the lands of the Count of Benavente, within the Merindad de Valverde, and passed to the province of Zamora when it was reorganised in 1833. In the square stands its restored church, next to a two-spout fountain crowned by the figure of a dog; atop a hill, on the outskirts, stands its second church, surrounded by a multitude of wine cellars dug into the earth. Its festivals are the Novena de la Virgen, on 17 May, and San Salvador, on 30 August.
