Pueblica de Valverde
Village
Pueblica de Valverde is a village of 172 inhabitants in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles (Zamora), situated between the N-630, N-631 and N-525 roads, 25 kilometres from Benavente. Its municipal area, crossed from south to north by the Zamarrilla stream, includes the Pozos dehesa and the hamlet of Bercianos de Valverde. Repopulated after Alfonso III's victory at the Battle of la Polvorosa (878), it was integrated into the Kingdom of León and later belonged to the Merindad de Valverde, before passing to the province of Zamora in 1833, when it had barely 158 inhabitants. Its economy today revolves around the cherry, known as the «guinda de la Pueblica», whose blossom covers the area in white in spring and has in recent years attracted numerous visitors.
