Morales de Valverde
Village
Morales de Valverde is a municipality in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, in the province of Zamora, with 156 inhabitants, which also includes the hamlet of San Pedro de Zamudia. Its municipal area, of 18.01 km², is a crossroads from which four roads set out towards Benavente, the comarca of Tábara, the Vidriales valley, the Tera valley and the Zamora–Puebla road. Founded, according to tradition, by the kings of León during the Middle Ages, in the early modern period it formed part of the lands of the Count of Benavente, within the Merindad de Valverde, and passed to the province of Zamora after the reorganisation of 1833. The village church holds a stone Immaculate Conception, a Baroque altarpiece and a Gothic baptismal font, and an Annunciation is carved on its doors.
