Quintanilla de Urz
Village
Quintanilla de Urz is a hamlet in Zamora of 98 inhabitants and barely 10.05 square kilometres, in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles. Its name comes from the word quintana, which came to mean a hamlet, together with the qualifier Urz, the local name for tree heather. Founded during the medieval repopulation of the Kingdom of León, in the early modern period it belonged to the lands of the Count of Benavente, within the Merindad de Vidriales, until it passed to the province of Zamora in 1833; in the mid-19th century it had 128 inhabitants. It has a parish church and a second hermitage dedicated to San Isidro, in whose honour it celebrates its festival on 15 May.
