Brime de Urz
Village
Brime de Urz is a village in the province of Zamora, in the Vidriales valley, within the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, beside the Almucera stream, with 96 inhabitants. Atop a hill stands the chapel of San Esteban, next to an Iron Age hillfort, evidence of occupation before the arrival of Rome; nearby too was the Roman camp of Petavonium, which controlled the valley's hillfort communities and the area's iron extraction. After the Christian victory of Alfonso III of Asturias at Polvoraria, in the year 878, the territory was brought into the Leonese kingdom. In the early modern period, Brime de Urz formed part of the Lands of the Count of Benavente. On the first weekend of May the village carries the saint in procession up to the chapel.
