Arrabalde
Village
Arrabalde is a village of 186 inhabitants in the north of the province of Zamora, in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles; its name comes from the Arabic rabád, meaning neighbourhood or suburb. Next to the Iron Age Asturian hillfort of Las Labradas, where the remains of a Roman military camp were found in 2020, the Arrabalde Treasure was discovered in 1980 and 1988: more than fifty pieces of gold and silver, with a combined weight of about twelve kilos, including fibulae, torques, bracelets, pendants and diadems from pre-Roman times, now on display at the Museum of Zamora. Notable among them are a spiral-shaped silver bracelet and a Hispanic annular gold fibula. A kilometre from the village stands, in addition, the dolmen known as El Casetón de los Moros.

Nature
This fortified Astur settlement, between Arrabalde and Villaferrueña, atop the Sierra de Carpurias and overlooking the floodplain of the river Eria, was occupied from the Bronze Age, though its height came in the late Iron Age and during the Roman period. With a perimeter of 2,500 metres and covering 23 hectares, it is bounded by several lines of wall defining two enclosures, one of whose entrances, excavated, shows two quadrangular bastions; inside are preserved remains of dwellings, cisterns, springs, and the ruins of a medieval hermitage, and on the southern slope there are traces of old mining excavations. Two hoards were found there, in 1980 and 1987, and in 2020 a Roman military camp was identified next to the castro, evidence of the siege by which Rome subdued these lands.

Curiosity
Two finds, in 1980 and in 1988, brought out of the castro more than fifty pieces of gold and silver —fibulae, torcs, bracelets and pendants— with some twelve kilos of total weight, today exhibited in the Museo de Zamora.

Monument
One kilometre to the northwest of the village is preserved this Neolithic passage grave, with six orthostats and a corridor oriented to the southeast, in which hardly any grave goods were documented.
