La Parrilla
Village
La Parrilla is a village of about 470 inhabitants in the Tierra de Pinares district, in Valladolid, set in a landscape of dunes formed by the sands of the Duero and the Cega, fixed since the Middle Ages by the planting of pines that gave rise to an industry of pine cones, pine nuts, resin and timber. It is the birthplace of San Francisco de San Miguel, a Franciscan friar and one of the 26 martyrs of Japan. On the plaza Mayor, the town hall occupies the old noble house of the entailed estate of the Ribadeneira family, whose coat of arms, with a flowered cross and waves accompanied by a trout, is preserved beside the doorway. Its church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, Gothic from the first third of the 16th century, mixes stone and brick and opens to the south with a carpanel-arched doorway with balls in the Hispano-Flemish taste.
