What to see and do in Montemayor de Pililla

Montemayor de Pililla
Village
Montemayor de Pililla sits at 869 metres above sea level on the páramo that gives it its name, in the Tierra de Pinares district of Valladolid. It was the head town of the sexmo of Montemayor within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Cuéllar; until the 1916 reform the municipality was simply called Montemayor. It now has about 840 inhabitants. It preserves the parish church of Santa María Magdalena, its patron saint, whose feast is celebrated on 22 July, and the humilladero (wayside shrine) of the Christ, south of the village. The main festivities, from 13 to 18 September, celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross with a square, wooden bullring; both the Función de la Cruz and that bullring were declared in 2017 a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) of an intangible nature.
