Santibáñez de Valcorba
Village
Santibáñez de Valcorba is a village in the Tierra de Pinares, in the province of Valladolid, with around 195 inhabitants, located in the valley of the Valcorba stream and belonging to the Mancomunidad Pinoduero. It was part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Cuéllar, as head of the Sexmo de Valcorba, and has therefore traditionally been heavily influenced by the lands of Segovia. Much of El Carrascal, a protected natural area for its stone pine, holm oak, Portuguese oak and Spanish juniper, extends across its territory. Its church of San Juan Evangelista, from the 13th century, is an example of Mudéjar or brick Romanesque style. The paseo de las Bodegas preserves the caves dug underground, and churra sheep farming still supplies milk-fed lamb to the local grill houses.
