Herrín de Campos
Village
Herrín de Campos is a village of around 110 inhabitants in the centre of Tierra de Campos, in the province of Valladolid, on the Meseta Norte, watered by the río Sequillo, channelled in the early 20th century because of its constant flooding. The infante don Pedro, son of Sancho IV and María de Molina, gave the village to the Burgos monastery of Las Huelgas, under whose lordship it remained for much of the Ancien Régime; the remains of a manor house with a coat of arms survive, along with the façade of the San Roque hospital, on Mayor street. Its church of Salvador, of brick and rammed earth, designed by Sebastián de Agüero, holds a main altarpiece carved in 1720 by Tomás de la Sierra.
