What to see and do in Valdearcos de la Vega

Valdearcos de la Vega
Village
Valdearcos de la Vega is a hamlet of 56 inhabitants in the Campo de Peñafiel district, in the province of Valladolid, situated in the Cuco Valley, at 777 metres above sea level and 65 kilometres from the provincial capital. The village has a Renaissance justice pillory, without its top ornament, in the upper square, behind the church. It belonged to the lordship of the Duke of Béjar, whose seat was in Curiel de Duero, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra of Curiel; according to the 1752 cadastre of the Marquis of la Ensenada, the duke received 1,500 reales a year from the village in alcabalas (a sales tax), and its residents, then 51 families, grew wheat, barley, rye and vines by the Duero. Its Church of the Assumption preserves a main chapel with a 15th-century tierceron vault and a two-tier tower.
