What to see and do in Bocos de Duero

Bocos de Duero
Village
Bocos de Duero, with 6.34 km², is the smallest municipality in the province of Valladolid, located in the Valle del Cuco, seven kilometres from Peñafiel, with 79 inhabitants. It took on the addition «de Duero» in 1916 to distinguish itself from another municipality of the same name in Burgos, now a hamlet of Villarcayo; its vineyards, beside the river that gives it its name, are covered by the Ribera del Duero designation of origin. Its parish is dedicated to the Virgen de las Nieves, patroness of the village together with San Miguel Arcángel, and the church, Gothic from the 13th century, holds a 14th-century carving of the Virgen de las Nieves and choir beams painted with geometric motifs from the 15th century.
Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves
Monument
A thirteenth-century Gothic church whose sacristy, of the fourteenth, is covered with a tierceron vault. It presides over a village that in 1845 barely gathered twenty-four houses and one hundred and seventy inhabitants on the bank of the Duero.
The vulture colony of the Pico de Bocos
Nature
The cliffs of the peak hold an important colony of griffon vulture, accompanied by eagles and small mammals. Below, the Duero maintains populations of common barbel, Duero nase, bordallo and carp.
