Roturas
Village
Roturas is a hamlet of 26 inhabitants in Valladolid province, in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, which was part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Curiel; it lives off rain-fed farming, rural tourism and several hectares of vineyard belonging to wineries of the Ribera de Duero. Its church of San Esteban, from the 16th century, holds a main altarpiece of limestone with a Mannerist air, with a broken pediment housing a niche with San Juan Evangelista, and a 15th-century parish cross of gilded silver, with the iconography of the four evangelists, the Virgin, San Juan, the Pelican and the risen Adam, which preserves an early Gothic Christ. The village opens to the public the Escuela del Ayer, with objects from the old school, and celebrates San Esteban on the first weekend of August.
The School of Yesteryear
Curiosity
A small museum reconstructs the classroom of the rural school with original desks, maps and teaching material, in a village that today does not reach thirty residents and that in 1849 had thirty-four houses.
