What to see and do in Piñel de Arriba

Piñel de Arriba
Village
Piñel de Arriba is a municipality in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, in the province of Valladolid, with just 81 inhabitants over 3.50 km², a density of 5.93 inhabitants/km². It preserves as historic monuments the parish church of San Juan Ante Portam Latinam, in Gothic style and from the 16th century, and the shrine of the Cristo de las Eras, from the 12th century, which holds inside a Romanesque carving; it also has traditional rural springs, such as the Fuente Vieja and that of Ontalvilla. Its patronal festivities, in honour of the Virgen del Rosario, are celebrated on 25 August, while on 6 May San Juan ante Portam Latinam is celebrated, which gives its name to the main church, and on 14 September the Cristo de las Eras, titular of the shrine.
Hermitage of el Cristo de las Eras
Monument
A twelfth-century hermitage that preserves inside a Romanesque wooden carving. It is accompanied in the village's heritage by the Gothic church of San Juan Ante Portam Latinam, raised four centuries later.
The mural of depopulation
Curiosity
In 2008 the residents painted a mural that makes irony of the emptying of the village: from several hundred inhabitants in the middle of the nineteenth century it has gone to little more than eighty in a municipal district of 23 square kilometres.
