What to see and do in Pesquera de Duero

Pesquera de Duero
Village
Pesquera de Duero is a village of 403 inhabitants in the Ribera del Duero, in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, province of Valladolid. On the slopes of the Pinzas hills, remains of a prehistoric settlement and materials ranging from the Neolithic to the Iron Age have been found. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Peñafiel until 1395, and in the 16th century it went through a period of great prosperity linked to the expansion of viticulture; in 1631 it attained the status of town, with 150 households and its own chief magistrate. Its houses preserve heraldic coats of arms, such as the one from 1711 on the calle del Cazo. Its church of San Juan Bautista is attributed to the Cantabrian master mason Juan de Nates, and it also preserves the shrines of Rubialejos, the Santo Cristo, San Pedro and San Sebastián.
