Piñel de Abajo
Village
Piñel de Abajo is a hamlet in the comarca of Campo de Peñafiel, in the province of Valladolid, with 165 inhabitants. Its church of San Pelayo Mártir, from the 16th century, has a nave with chapels between buttresses and star-ribbed vaults; the main altarpiece surrounds the titular saint with six paintings of his life and martyrdom, and one of the chapels holds a 16th-century panel of the Palencia school depicting the Assumption of the Virgin, while the sacristy preserves an Immaculate Conception on canvas of the Madrid school, possibly attributed to Eugenio Cajés. The village also has the shrine of the Santo Cristo de la Vega, with a single nave and an 18th-century plasterwork dome, and a town hall with seven round arches and two storeys.
