Valoria la Buena
Village
Valoria la Buena is a town of 740 inhabitants in the Campiña del Pisuerga, province of Valladolid, attached to the Cigales Designation of Origin. Situated in a valley of probable Celtiberian origin, its name comes from the Latin Vall-Aurea, golden valley, already documented in the 14th century. In 1630 the Viscountcy of Valoria la Buena was created, a title of the González de Mendoza family, whose coat of arms and motto, Ave María Gratia Plena, were adopted by the municipality; the palace of the Viscounts survives from that lineage. The neoclassical church of San Pedro Apóstol was built on the orders of Manuel Godoy. The hermitage of the Santo Cristo de la Esperanza and the Pitcher Museum complete its heritage; the town celebrates Corpus Christi as its main festival.
Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Valoria
Monument
A neoclassical church with a central plan whose construction, the work of the architects Fernando and Manuel Gutiérrez following a plan by Manuel Godoy, would have formed a perfect hexagon were it not for the two straight bays added at the chancel and the foot. The central space is covered by a dome decorated with plasterwork and a lantern on the outside, and in its tower, at the foot of the church, remains of an earlier 13th-century building survive. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 28 October 1993. Beside it, the village also has the hermitage of the Santo Cristo de la Esperanza and the palace of the local viscounts.

Nature
The place name comes from the Latin vall-aurea, golden valley. The climate is temperate with a dry summer, 401 millimetres of rain a year and averages that range between the 4.4 degrees of winter and the 21.5 of summer.
The summer New Year's Eve
Curiosity
Since 1995, following a power cut that left the village without a New Year's Eve, the residents celebrate the chimes on the first Saturday of August. The occasion was completed in 2009 with a San Silvestre race that brought together more than three hundred runners.
The viscountcy of Valoria la Buena
Historical milestone
In 1630 the viscountcy bearing the town's name was created, linked to the house of González de Mendoza. The palace of the viscounts still stands beside the parish church.
