Población de Cerrato
Village
Población de Cerrato is a hamlet in El Cerrato, in the province of Palencia, with about a hundred inhabitants, at 806 metres in the valley of the Madrazo stream; although it belongs to Palencia, it is accessed from Valladolid, from Valoria la Buena. It is part of a series of villages aligned along the stream valley, among them Cubillas, Alba and Vertavillo de Cerrato. Next to the settlement, on the north slope of a spur of the plateau, a group of wine cellars is clustered, and another further west. In the mid-19th century Madoz counted fifty-three houses and a flour mill there, when the town had 271 inhabitants. It preserves the church of San Babiles and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. On 26 July it celebrates Santa Ana, with a Salve at dawn and picnics in the wine cellars.
