What to see and do in Alcubilla de Avellaneda

Alcubilla de Avellaneda
Village
Alcubilla de Avellaneda is a municipality in Soria of 111 inhabitants that groups together, besides the main settlement, those of Alcoba de la Torre and Zayas de Bascones, incorporated respectively in the 19th century and in 1967. Its name combines Alcubilla, an Arabic diminutive here interpreted as the town of the hundred fountains, and Avellaneda, after the lords who built a palace in the town in the 16th century. Situated in the comarca of Tierras del Burgo, it is a confluence point of the Camino del Cid and the Ruta de la Lana, on the banks of the small Pilde river. The 1575 palace later served as a barracks of the Guardia Civil during the Civil War and the Franco era, and the village also preserves the church of Santa María Magdalena.
