Brazacorta
Village
Brazacorta is a hamlet of 43 inhabitants on the road from Peñaranda de Duero to San Leonardo de Yagüe, in the Burgos comarca of La Ribera. Here stood a monastery of Premonstratensian nuns dedicated to Santa María, founded by countess Ermesenda, widow of count Manrique Pérez de Lara, who spent her last days there and probably died on 7 January 1177; in 1287 King Sancho IV granted the monastery the right to take one sheep from every transhumant flock crossing the territory. It preserves the 13th-century church of la Asunción, the ermita of the Cristo del Humilladero and old wash-houses; its festivities are San Sebastián on 20 January, San Juan on 24 June and, the most attended, the Assumption, on 15 August.
