What to see and do in Huerta de Rey

Huerta de Rey
Village
Huerta de Rey is a municipality in the comarca of the Sierra de la Demanda, in the province of Burgos, situated on the Ruta de la Lana and on the Camino del Cid, 80 kilometres from the provincial capital. In its territory rises the Arandilla river, which runs 36 kilometres before pouring its waters into the Duero as it passes through Aranda de Duero, amid pine forests of black pine and Scots pine inhabited by roe deer, wild boar and foxes. The municipality groups together, besides the town of Huerta de Rey, the settlements of Hinojar del Rey, Peñalba de Castro and Quintanarraya, where the ruins of the Roman city of Clunia extend. With 889 inhabitants, it suffered in 1918 a fire that burned 300 houses, and it preserves popular timber-framed architecture, a baroque church and a bullring.
The village of unique names
Curiosity
The town is known for the custom of giving newborns names that nobody else bears, drawn at times from the most obscure calendar of saints. Every August it holds an international festival devoted precisely to names.
