Espeja de San Marcelino
Village
Espeja de San Marcelino is a town of 160 inhabitants in Tierras del Burgo, province of Soria, which also includes the hamlets of Guijosa, La Hinojosa, Orillares, Quintanilla de Nuño Pedro and San Asenjo. Its name may come from the Latin speculu, mirror, or from specula, watchtower; San Marcelino was added when, after the disentailment of the Hieronymite convent, the bones attributed to that saint were moved to the parish church, where they are still kept. In 1653, King Philip IV granted the town its title in exchange for 1,400 ducats. It preserves the ruins of the Hieronymite monastery and a rollo, and on its territory is the first via ferrata equipped in Castile and León. Every 2 June, the feast of San Marcelino, the jota is danced facing the saint.

Historical milestone
The cardinal and bishop of Osma Pedro Fernández de Frías founded in 1402 this monastery of Saint Jerome. In 1525 it passed to the patronage of the Avellaneda and after the disentailment it declined until it was demolished in the twentieth century.
