Arauzo de Torre
Village
A hamlet in the Sierra de la Demanda comarca, in Burgos, between this sierra and the Ribera del Duero, near Aranda de Duero; it has 55 inhabitants. Its name comes from the defensive tower that was built above the hamlet and today forms part of the church. The río Aranzuelo flows through the village, rising at Doña Santos and joining the Arandilla at Quemada. There once existed a convent of nuns called Santa Tosia, a priory of that of Santa María de Fuencaliente del Burgo, in Soria. The village was part of the so-called Jurisdicción de los Arauzos, which brought together some ten villages in the south of the sierra and which in 1591 numbered 876 tax-paying householders.
