What to see and do in Fuentearmegil

Fuentearmegil
Village
Fuentearmegil is a municipality in Soria of 148 inhabitants, bathed by the river Perales, a tributary of the Arandilla, which also groups together the hamlets of Fuencaliente del Burgo, Santervás del Burgo and Zayuelas. In 1352 the Becerro de las Behetrías listed it as the domain of the monastery of Bernardine nuns of Fuencaliente del Burgo. It was also the town of Pedro Núñez de Fuente Almexir, a knight of the House of Lara who defended the rights to the throne of Alfonso VIII against his uncle Ferdinand II of León and who made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, a feat recorded in El Conde Lucanor by don Juan Manuel; here too was born the only Templar knight of known name, Fray Fernán Núñez de Fuentearmejir. In 1787 it had 488 inhabitants as a lordship town of the partido of Aranda, under the count of Oñate.
The Romanesque baptismal font of San Andrés
Monument
The parish church holds a Romanesque baptismal font, a piece at once common and little valued in the heritage of these villages: for centuries it was the only piece of carved stone furniture that many hamlets of the Duero possessed.
