What to see and do in Fuentepinilla

Fuentepinilla
Village
Fuentepinilla is a municipality in Soria that brings together, besides the eponymous settlement, those of Osona and Valderrueda, the latter incorporated between the 1850 and 1857 censuses. Its earliest settlements, on the height of San Miguel, date from the early Iron Age; in the Middle Ages it was part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Andaluz, established by the Fuero de Andaluz in 1089, and was the head of its own alfoz, later a lordship of the Count of Aguilar, lord of Los Cameros. It preserves a 16th-century Renaissance rollo, the medieval bridge of las Cabras, with a single arch and possibly raised over an earlier Roman bridge, and the church of San Juan Bautista, renovated in the 16th century but with its Romanesque portal from the mid-12th century on its south façade. It now has 73 inhabitants.
The Puente de las Cabras
Monument
The Puente de las Cabras is a medieval ashlar bridge located about 100 metres from Fuentepinilla, alongside the SO-110 road towards Fuentelárbol and Abejar, which crossed the Fuentepinilla river on the road linking the Berlanga area with the Duero valley. With a single, highly raised arch and straight masonry parapets, it is reinforced with triangular buttresses on both sides and was built over an earlier bridge of Roman origin, at the point where the road crossed the riverbed on the outskirts of the village.
The Harpy Capitals of San Juan Bautista
Monument
From the twelfth century the church preserves a southern doorway with three round archivolts whose capitals are decorated with harpies, those hybrid beings that the Romanesque scattered across church doorways.
The Palace of the Counts of Aguilar
Monument
A palatial house dated 1529, with broken mouldings framing door and balcony and stone coats of arms on the front; it is the most notable example of Gothic seigneurial architecture in this part of the comarca.
The Town Arch
Curiosity
In 1847 Madoz described the remains of an earthen wall and a stone arch they called the town gate; the village, head of the community of Andaluz, was walled like the frontier towns.
The Festivities of San Juan and San Isidro
Activity
On the third weekend of June the municipality, which gathers the settlements of Fuentepinilla, Osona and Valderrueda, celebrates together the festivals of San Isidro Labrador and San Juan Bautista, its patron.
