What to see and do in Tajueco

Tajueco
Village
Tajueco is a village of 61 inhabitants beside the Duero, in the comarca of Berlanga, province of Soria, surrounded by pine groves and springs. It has been part of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Andaluz since 1089, created by the Fuero de Andaluz, and in the 1842 census it had 57 households and 272 inhabitants. It is known in the province for having kept its tradition of coarse glazed pottery, fired until recently in Arab-style kilns. Its church of San Pedro, much altered, still preserves Gothic elements. It celebrates San Antonio on the second weekend of June and San Roque on the last of October, and on All Saints' Eve sings the Canticle of the Souls.
The Church of San Pedro de Tajueco
Monument
Much remodelled over the centuries, it still preserves Gothic elements in its fabric; it presides over a village that in 1842 had fifty-seven households and today is around sixty inhabitants.
The Pottery of Arab-Style Kilns
Curiosity
The village kept a tradition of rustic glazed pottery fired in Arab-type kilns, a trade uncommon in the province that supplied pitchers and washbowls to the surrounding villages.
The Chant of the Souls
Activity
On the eve of All Saints the response for the souls is sung in the village, and at Corpus the children born during the year are blessed: two communal rites that have not been lost here.
The Pine Forests and the Frog Fountain
Nature
The municipal district is surrounded by pine woods and dotted with springs, among them the Fuente de la Rana; its banks of the Duero form a small protected site within the Natura 2000 Network.
