What to see and do in Tardelcuende

Tardelcuende
Village
Tardelcuende is a municipality of around 414 inhabitants situated at 990 metres in the upper valle del Duero of Soria, an area of central pine forests 96% covered by black pine; it is made up of Tardelcuende, Cascajosa and Osonilla, and is crossed by the Soria-Torralba-Madrid railway line, with its own halt. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the sexmo de Lubia, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria, and in 1528 71 pecheros paid taxes there, according to the manuscript that records the town as Taldelquende. On its present municipal area the Battle of Osonilla took place in 1811, during the War of Independence. It is the birthplace of the writer Juan Antonio Gaya Nuño and the journalists Bienvenido Calvo and Aurelio Lafuente.
The resin-tapper's trade
Curiosity
The faces carved in the trunk, the clay pot and the adze describe a work that sustained these villages for generations. Almost extinct at the end of the twentieth century, the use of the crude resin has returned to the comarca.
The Izana river amid the pine forests
Nature
The Izana crosses Quintana Redonda, Tardelcuende and Matamala before giving itself up to the Duero. It runs set in the great pine wood that gives its name to the joint authority and sustains alder and willow groves in an otherwise sandy landscape.
