What to see and do in Rioseco de Soria

Rioseco de Soria
Village
Rioseco de Soria is a town of 123 inhabitants in the Tierras del Burgo district, in the province of Soria, which includes the hamlet of Valdealvillo and the depopulated villages of La Mercadera and Escobosa de Calatañazor. After the Reconquest it remained attached to the alfoz of Calatañazor, whence comes the name Rioseco de Calatañazor that it kept until the mid-20th century. By the mid-19th century it had 320 inhabitants, a figure that grew when it incorporated Escobosa de Calatañazor and Valdealvillo. It traditionally lives from growing wheat, barley and sunflower, and from sheep and pig farming. It preserves the Romanesque church of San Juan Bautista, a jurisdictional rollo dated 1817, and the Roman villa of Los Quintanares, a bien de interés cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
The apse of San Juan Bautista
Monument
The parish church preserves from its Romanesque fabric a finely worked apse articulated by two attached columns, above which runs a series of nine small round arches that go round the whole hemicycle.
