What to see and do in Quintana Redonda

Quintana Redonda
Village
Quintana Redonda is a municipality in the province of Soria, in the district of Almazán, which brings together eleven population centres, among them Fuentelaldea, Izana, La Seca and Las Cuevas de Soria, spread among stands of black pine from which resin was once extracted, beside the río Izana. The name may refer to a Roman camp set up during the siege of Numantia, since Quintana designated the square and market attached to a camp, while Redonda alludes to the shape of the land. During the Romanesque period the area was resettled by people from the north of Spain, and in 1430 King John II of Castile stayed in the town. With almost 500 inhabitants, it preserves a crested palace with gardens, a bullring restored for the August encierros, and a ceramics museum.
The pottery past of Quintana Redonda
Curiosity
The village lived for centuries on clay and came to supply pitchers and cooking pots to a good part of the comarca; today it keeps a museum devoted to that popular pottery and to the kilns that fired it.
The saffron milk caps of the Quintana pine forests
Food and drink
Autumn fills the pine woods with saffron milk caps, which here are cooked in the pan with garlic and bacon or as an accompaniment to meat. The gathering is a social occasion that draws whole families into the woods every weekend.
