What to see and do in Golmayo

Golmayo
Village
Golmayo is a municipality of more than 3,000 inhabitants right next to the city of Soria and undergoing strong population growth, which groups together eleven population centres, among them Camparañón, Nafría la Llana and Villabuena. Its territory, of almost 190 km², combines mountainous areas, such as the sierra de Hinodejo, with flatter areas watered by the río Golmayo, and includes a good part of the Site of Community Importance Sabinares Sierra de Cabrejas. Its closeness to Soria, only four kilometres away, has turned it into a genuine dormitory town of the capital, with annual growth of around 7%. It preserves the Romanesque ensemble of Villabuena, the church of la Natividad de Nafría la Llana and the Roman bridge of Los Tres Ojos, in Camparañón.
Romanesque church of Nafría la Llana
Monument
In the hamlet of Nafría la Llana stands the so-called Monasterio de la Monjía, a 12th-century Romanesque church, one of the most notable monuments of a municipality that groups together ten population centres. The parish church of the village, under the dedication of San Blas, is likewise Romanesque and dates from the mid-12th century. Nafría la Llana belonged to the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Calatañazor and was an independent municipality until the late 20th century, when it was merged into that of Golmayo; at the time it had 108 inhabitants.
The Roman bridges of the Golmayo
Monument
Two bridges of Roman origin survive in the municipal district, one of them over the river Golmayo beside the route of the national road, testimony to the road network that articulated this territory in Antiquity.
Juniper forests of the Sierra de Cabrejas
Nature
The municipality contributes 3,372 hectares to the Natura 2000 site of the juniper woods of the Sierra de Cabrejas, masses of Spanish juniper on limestone moors that constitute one of the most singular forests in Europe.
Las Camaretas and the growth of Golmayo
Curiosity
Against the general emptying of the province, Golmayo has grown by close to 7% a year in recent decades thanks to the development of Las Camaretas, beside the provincial capital, which works as a dormitory town for Soria.
