What to see and do in Cirujales del Río

Cirujales del Río
Village
Cirujales del Río is a municipality in the comarca of Almarza, in Soria, with a territory of barely 8.76 km² and 21 inhabitants. It already appears in the Censo de Pecheros of 1528, as Cerujales, within the Sexmo de San Juan, and by the mid-19th century it had 64 houses and about 289 residents. Its church of la Asunción, with a 16th-century chancel and the rest from the 18th, houses the Renaissance pantheon of the Camargo and Salazar families, with helmets worked in the style of Diego de Siloé, and on its façade it displays a heraldic coat of arms under an 18th-century canopy. It celebrates its festivities in honour of San Bricio, in October.

Monument
Its chancel was raised in the sixteenth century and the nave in the eighteenth; carved heraldic shields adorn the front and inside an eighteenth-century baldachin is preserved over the main altar.

Monument
The church preserves the Renaissance burial of these two families, with helmets carved in stone in the manner of Diego de Siloé, a surprising work in a village of twenty-one inhabitants.
The feast of San Bricio
Activity
In October the village celebrates San Bricio, an invocation rarely found in the province; the census of 1842 counted seventy-two homes and 289 households there, more than ten times those left today.
