Ausejo de la Sierra
Village
Ausejo de la Sierra is a municipality of 113 inhabitants in the comarca of Almarza, in the north of the province of Soria, which also groups together the hamlets of Cuéllar de la Sierra and Fuentelfresno. It sits at the foot of the cerro de San Juan, of 1,359 metres, on the watershed between the río Merdancho and río Tera, both of the Duero basin. During the Middle Ages it belonged, as Absejo, to the sexmo de San Juan of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria. After the fall of the Ancien Régime it was constituted as a municipality under the name Ausejo; at the end of the 19th century it became independent from Buitrago, to which it had been joined, incorporating Fuentelfresno, and in 1916 it adopted its current name.
