Narros
Village
Narros is a hamlet of 68 residents located in the east of the province of Soria, 20 kilometres from the capital, at the foot of the sierra del Almuerzo, a place linked to the legend of the Siete Infantes de Lara. Its name is thought to come from “navarros”, after the resettlers who arrived from the neighbouring kingdom of Navarre in the late Middle Ages; in the 1528 Pecheros census it appeared as Naharros. It preserves the church of San Juan Bautista and the Casa de la Media Naranja, a small mansion built around 1750 with a square watchtower and coats of arms carved in stone, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 1996. According to tradition, the hermitage of the Virgen del Almuerzo marks the spot where, in the 10th century, the residents hid the image from the Muslim invasion. In August it celebrates the Fiesta de la Rosquilla, house by house.
