Buitrago
Village
Buitrago is a hamlet in the comarca of Almarza, in the province of Soria, with 68 inhabitants (INE 2025), which belonged during the Middle Ages to the sexmo de San Juan of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Soria; the original document records it under the spelling Buytrago, and the 1528 census of pecheros counted twenty-four taxpaying families there, not including clergy, hidalgos or nobles. After the fall of the Ancien Régime it was constituted as a constitutional municipality within the partido of Soria, with 51 households and 207 residents according to the 1842 census, while in the mid-19th century Madoz's Diccionario attributed it 44 houses.

The sexmo of San Juan
Historical milestone
The sexmo of San Juan was one of the five medieval administrative divisions, together with Frentes, Arciel, Luvia and Tera, into which the rural district of the Community of Town and Land of Soria was organised, to which Buitrago belonged during the Middle Ages. The 1528 Census of Pecheros, which did not count clergy, hidalgos or nobles, attributed twenty-four pechero households to this village. In the mid-19th century the municipality grew by incorporating Ausejo de la Sierra and Fuentelfresno, which became independent again around 1900, at the end of that century. The 1842 census recorded 51 households and 207 residents, and by the mid-19th century the village had 44 houses counted; today it has 68 inhabitants.
