The sexmo of San Juan Historical milestone · Buitrago, Almarza, Soria Image of Buitrago, not of the place itself. The sexmo of San Juan was one of the five medieval administrative divisions, together with Frentes, Arciel, Luvia and Tera, into which the rural district of the Community of Town and Land of Soria was organised, to which Buitrago belonged during the Middle Ages. The 1528 Census of Pecheros, which did not count clergy, hidalgos or nobles, attributed twenty-four pechero households to this village. In the mid-19th century the municipality grew by incorporating Ausejo de la Sierra and Fuentelfresno, which became independent again around 1900, at the end of that century. The 1842 census recorded 51 households and 207 residents, and by the mid-19th century the village had 44 houses counted; today it has 68 inhabitants. 1528 Photo: Diego Delso (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Buitrago
