Ventosilla y Tejadilla
Village
Ventosilla y Tejadilla is a Segovian municipality of 17 inhabitants, spread among the settlements of Ventosilla, Tejadilla and Casas Altas. Excavations in the 1940s found here a 6th-century Visigothic necropolis and the remains of a 2nd-century oratory, which attest to a Hispano-Roman and Visigothic settlement. In 1247 the place of Teiadiella is already recorded, resettled during the Reconquista by the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda; the Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de Tejadilla dates from that time, its capitals showing the Adoration of the Magi. Legend has it that a father founded it while separating three daughters who were quarreling. Until 1559 the place belonged to the council of Sepúlveda, when Philip II ceded it to the lordship of Castroserna to finance his wars against the Turks.
