Condado de Castilnovo
Village
Condado de Castilnovo is a municipality in the province of Segovia formed by four villages —La Nava del Condado, Torrecilla del Condado, Valdesaz and Villafranca del Condado, seat of the town hall— with about 74 inhabitants, which takes its name from the castle of Castilnovo, an Arab tower of the 8th-10th centuries rebuilt in the 12th century after the Reconquista. Resettled by the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, the castle passed through the hands of Álvaro de Luna, the Marquis of Villena and Ferdinand the Catholic, who gave it as a dowry to his daughter Joanna of Aragon when he married her to the Duke of Frías. Each settlement preserves its own church: the neoclassical church of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua in Villafranca, the Romanesque church of Santa Cristina in Valdesaz, that of San Bartolomé in Torrecilla and that of San Juan in La Nava.
