Casla
Village
Casla is a village in the province of Segovia located at the foot of the sierra de Guadarrama, 49 kilometers from the capital, whose name, of Visigothic origin, means little house or hut: it recalls the house that served as a shelter for the shepherds who watched over livestock at the foot of the sierra and that gave rise to the village. Resettled thanks to the Fuero de Sepúlveda after the Arab invasion, it is first documented in 1247, when it already formed part of the Ochavo de Prádena, in the Comunidad de villa y tierra de Sepúlveda. With about 155 inhabitants, its church of San Pedro, a patron possibly brought by resettlers from La Rioja, orients its chancel to the south, and among junipers stands the hermitage of the Virgen de la Estrella.
