Valtiendas
Village
Valtiendas is a municipality of about 75 inhabitants at the far north of the province of Segovia, within the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Fuentidueña, to which Pecharromán and the hamlet of San José are attached; in 1591 it was documented as Valdetiendas, a name barely changed since then. The climate, Mediterranean continentalized by altitude, brings long, cold winters, with persistent fog and frequent thermal inversions, and short, hot summers, summed up in the saying “nine months of winter and three of hell.” The municipality lends its name to a quality wine, and in Pecharromán stands the Romanesque church of San Andrés, with one of the finest collections of corbels in the province.
