What to see and do in Cuevas de Provanco

Cuevas de Provanco
Village
Cuevas de Provanco is a town of the Community of Town and Land of Sepúlveda, at the northern tip of the province of Segovia, with about 131 inhabitants, with narrow, steep streets on the slope of a hill crowned by the Romanesque church of the Vera Cruz, whose tower collapsed in 1946; it was absorbed by Sacramenia in 1970 and regained its own town council in 1989. Some of its houses still keep a certain medieval air, and the village preserves the remains of an old castle and two hermitages, that of San Roque and that of San Adrián. Within its boundary the Botijas river rises, a tributary of the Duero. The climate is continentalized Mediterranean, with long, cold winters and short, hot summers, summed up in the local saying: 'Nine months of winter and three of hell'.
