Torreadrada
Village
Torreadrada is a village of 53 inhabitants at the northern tip of the province of Segovia, with a continentalized Mediterranean climate. It is already mentioned in the mid-10th century, as Fontem Aderata, when the count of Monzón Asur Fernández donated the place to the monastery of San Pedro de Cardeña, in Burgos; within its boundary also lies the deserted village of Urdiales. Its parish church, dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady, preserves from its Romanesque origins the portal and the baptismal font, though most of the building, with a Latin-cross plan, is Baroque work from the 18th century. A bust in the village commemorates Teófilo Hernando, considered the father of modern Spanish pharmacology.
